Putin sent clear signal after U.S. envoy Witkoff’s visit to Russia — political analyst
Viktor Shlinchak, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of World Policy, believes that Putin will continue the war and that most likely there will be no peace talks in 2025
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Let me remind you that U.S. President’s special representative Steve Witkoff visited Russia on April 11 and spoke with Putin for nearly four hours. I can hardly imagine what could be discussed for that long unless it was one of Putin’s typical pseudo-historical lectures he enjoys. And the next day, Trump extended the sanctions that were originally imposed on April 15, 2021, even before the full-scale war in Ukraine began. This all indicates that the U.S. envoy’s visit was unsuccessful: Putin sent a very clear signal to Witkoff that he will continue the war,” commented Viktor Shlinchak.
In his opinion, the U.S. is beginning to realize that it won’t achieve any victory on this foreign policy front.
“All the promises and flirtation with the aggressor have only fueled Putin’s appetite, as he recognized the organizational weakness of the White House and how easily Trump can be led down a predetermined path. The Russians have studied Trump’s psychological profile thoroughly — they know they need to shower him with praise, talk about his greatness, while secretly crossing their fingers and doing whatever they want. I have bad news for our readers — most likely, there will be no peace talks in 2025,” the political analyst concluded.
- U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia. In St. Petersburg, he held a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that lasted over 4 hours. Meanwhile, the White House called it "a step toward a ceasefire" in Ukraine.
