Putin dismisses Trump’s peace plan
Steve Witkoff is as much of a negotiator as a pig is a Leopard 2 tank. He may be a good developer, but as a diplomat, especially against Putin, he's less than zero
All his visits to Moscow have resulted in Trump receiving the full range of Russian narratives, while Russia’s political stance hasn’t shifted by even a millimeter.
Lavrov's two recent interviews with CBS and a Brazilian outlet clearly demonstrate this. 'Denazification' and 'demilitarization' are still in place, as well as surrender demands for 5 Ukrainian regions.
"And right after Trump, with his boundless belief in his own charisma, got metaphorically spat in the face this way, Putin announced a three-day ceasefire for May 9. The messages to Trump here are more than obvious."
Firstly, Donnie, I couldn’t care less about your peace plan — but here, have a ceasefire, slathered in butter. Since you were reminiscing with me about the roles of the U.S. and Russia in winning World War II, let’s see how Ukraine handles this “ceasefire.”
And if they don’t comply, we’ll once again accuse them of Nazism (how dare they shoot on the 80th anniversary of Victory?!), of refusing to end the war, and so on.
And if Ukraine does try to observe the ceasefire — even better. We’ll occupy gray zones along the front, move the North Koreans closer to the line (everyone knows they’re fighting for us now), stockpile drones and missiles, and strike from better positions once the ceasefire ends.
Secondly, generals in Moscow seem to be dying a bit too often lately. What if something “unexpected” happens on May 9th? We can’t risk embarrassment in front of our distinguished guests from North Korea, Burkina Faso, and the Taliban — all of whom, clearly, made crucial contributions to the defeat of Nazism (Wilhelm Keitel just didn’t notice them in 1945 because he was stressed). So better to sign off on a unilateral ceasefire — just to be safe.
So, Donnie, there’s your answer to all your peace plans. Bon appétit — try not to make a mess.
