Putin and Lavrov’s bluster: buffer zone
Russia has two main weapons: bluff and war crimes
Russia has long been unable to seriously scale up its efforts on the front and relies on a strategy of grinding down territory at the cost of disproportionate losses. Its economy shows increasing signs of crisis every day, with military orders being the only source of nominal growth.
"But Putin has found a sudden ally in the American president and his fan base, as a tool of pressure on Ukraine and Europe, like a mad trickster who can cause chaos for his enemies."
However, even here, things have not gone quite according to plan. Ukraine does not want to capitulate, Europe is not so passive, and even Trump’s circle is not very satisfied with their leader’s weak stance on Putin.
Therefore, it is time for belligerent rhetoric and threats that Russia is mostly unable to carry out, but capable of finding those who will support this rhetoric, both in the U.S. and in Ukraine.
