“Let's not lose sight of the fact that this happened in Poland, and Poles are our friends, regardless of the political situation at the moment. They are our historical allies, close to us in spirit, so they are truly our friends,” Orbán said.

He added that this is why Hungary must be among the first to respond clearly to anything that violates Poland’s sovereignty.

“From the very first moment, we called the Russian drone incursion into Polish territory unacceptable, and we stand with the Poles, we are 100 percent in solidarity with them,” Orbán emphasized.

The Hungarian prime minister spoke about the Russian drones that this week entered Polish, and therefore NATO, airspace: “The incident that occurred on Wednesday is an illustration, or a parable, of the dangerous circumstances in which we live every day.”

According to him, it could have happened today or yesterday, in Poland or Hungary, “so the threat of war is inevitable.”

He added that his country keeps its distance from the war, while “the Poles are up to their ears in it.”

Russian Shaheds in Polish airspace. Background

Polish Armed Forces’ Operational Command put air defense systems and aviation on highest alert due to Russia’s night attack on Ukraine: Russian drones violated the country’s airspace.

As a result of a Russian attack on the night of September 10, drone debris fell on a residential building in a village in Poland’s Lublin Voivodeship. No one was injured.

Ukraine's President Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to help Poland develop an alert and air defense system. Meanwhile, European Commission President von der Leyen announces the EU will build a “drone wall” on the Russia border.

On Wednesday, September 10, NATO activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty after Russian drones violated Polish territory.

According to officials, defense experts, and analysts, this revealed how unprepared Europe is for such a massive air attack, which Russia launches against Ukraine almost every night, exposing the scale of investment needed to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
