Nordic foreign ministers call for immediate ceasefire in Ukraine
At the NATO summit in The Hague the foreign ministers of the Nordic countries called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine
According to the Finnish Foreign Ministry, the ministers emphasized that achieving a ceasefire requires two key steps:
1) continuing large-scale military support for Ukraine—exceeding $15 billion in 2025;
2) increasing economic pressure on Russia through new sanctions and tariffs coordinated across the transatlantic community.
The joint statement was signed by the foreign ministers of Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, demonstrating a unified stance in supporting Ukraine and countering Russian aggression.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha thanked his counterparts for their “clear and resolute statement.”
“More support for Ukraine, stronger sanctions pressure on Russia, and transatlantic unity are the key elements for moving closer to a just and lasting peace,” he wrote.
