NATO’s pledge to admit Ukraine remains firm even if not mentioned at The Hague summit — Rutte
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says that the promise to admit Ukraine into the Alliance will remain valid, even if it is not mentioned at the summit to be held in The Hague on June 24-25
He said this in London, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
"We have said that this path to NATO is irreversible. And this assessment will not change even after the summit... If it is not in the communique, there will be nothing wrong with that," Rutte assured.
The Secretary General also emphasized that the topic related to Ukraine will likely be raised during the summit.
At the same time, he added that there is currently no consensus in NATO as to whether the time is right to admit Kyiv into the Alliance.
On June 2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine had received an invitation to the NATO summit in The Hague, scheduled for June 24–25.
On June 3, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt confirmed that United States President Donald Trump will attend the NATO summit in The Hague.
