Lithuanian FM urges West to allow Ukraine to use weapons to strike targets in Russia
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that Ukraine's Western allies should lift restrictions on the use of weapons supplied to Kyiv and provide more freedom to hit targets in Russia
He said this in an interview with the French TV channel LCI, LRT reports.
“We made a mistake from the very beginning by restricting the Ukrainians because it could be seen as an escalation,” Landsbergis said, adding that Ukraine's allies are particularly affected by fear of Russia.
According to him, Ukrainians should be allowed to use the equipment provided to them to achieve their strategic goals.
“They should be able to strike at Russian territory, supply lines and troops preparing to attack Ukraine. Only one side obeys the rules. We must abandon these rules that we have created ourselves,” Landsbergis emphasized.
The Lithuanian minister also said he supports French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to send military instructors to Ukraine. According to him, military instructors from Western countries who were in Ukraine before the Russian invasion in 2022 should return and speed up the training of new soldiers.
“Lithuania is ready to rejoin, for example, the French-led coalition and train the Ukrainian military in Ukraine,” Landsbergis said.
