Lithuania summons Russian ambassador over June 17 strikes on Ukraine
Following Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine on Tuesday, June 17, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Russian embassy to deliver an official protest
According to LRT, the Lithuanian MFA stated that the strikes killed and wounded dozens of civilians and caused damage to residential buildings, educational institutions, and cultural sites. It also noted that cluster munitions may have been used in the attacks.
“These strikes are part of Russia’s ongoing and intensifying campaign of terror against Ukraine’s civilian population. The country faces daily barrages of missiles and drones deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure,” the ministry said in a statement.
The MFA emphasized that Russia’s systematic terror once again shows its deliberate disregard for international law, its intent to escalate the conflict, and its complete lack of interest in a ceasefire or peaceful resolution.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry urged the international community to step up pressure on Russia and provide comprehensive support to Ukraine.
- During a massive attack on Kyiv on the night of June 17, Russia launched strike drones from various directions to encircle the Ukrainian capital. A Russian Kh-101 cruise missile hit a multi-story residential building, causing significant destruction and civilian casualties.
