Russian Kh-101 missile strikes Kyiv apartment building — Ukraine's Air Force
During a massive attack on Kyiv on the night of June 17, Russia launched strike drones from various directions to encircle the capital, and a Kh-101 cruise missile hit a multi-story residential building, causing significant destruction and civilian casualties
Colonel Yurii Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Air Force, reported the information.
According to him, among the 440 strike drones that the Russians sent to Ukraine that night, about 280 were Shaheds.
Drones approached Kyiv from different sides, some flying along the Dnipro River, while others came from the east and west, attacking various districts of the city.
Ihnat also reported that the Russian forces launched 16 Kh-101 cruise missiles overnight, of which 15 were shot down, but one hit a residential building.
Two Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles did not reach their targets. In addition, the enemy used Kalibr missiles in the Zaporizhzhia direction, which could not be intercepted.
The Air Force representative emphasized that fragments of cluster munitions were found in the capital. These contain many lethal elements and are used to maximize casualties among people, which indicates the terrorist nature of the shelling.
"This is one of the (most massive strikes on Ukraine – ed.). Because Kyiv has experienced even worse scenarios, when dozens of ballistic missiles were launched at the capital. When the enemy fired Kh-101s and Kinzhal missiles, and it seems there were also ballistic missiles, like when the Okhmatdyt hospital was hit, and so on. There have been terrible moments in the history of our capital and other cities—Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, and so on," Ihnat summarized.
For reference: The Kh-101 is a strategic air-to-surface cruise missile launched by Russians from Tu-160 and Tu-95 bombers.
- In the early hours of June 17, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles. Strikes were reported in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia.
