Key challenge for Ukraine is converting air edge to ground gains — U.S. diplomat Carpenter
The key challenge now is how to transfer Ukraine’s asymmetric advantage in the air to the land theater of operations — Ukraine has already succeeded in depriving Russia of air superiority
American diplomat and former U.S. Permanent Representative to the OSCE Michael Carpenter shared his views in an interview with Anton Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program on Espreso TV.
He noted that Ukraine possessed numerous strengths, including innovation, determination, and ingenuity. According to him, despite not having a fully operational navy, Ukraine had managed to neutralize almost the entire Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Carpenter also pointed out that, although Ukraine’s air force was significantly weaker than Russia’s air and space forces, it had still succeeded in denying Russia air superiority over Ukrainian territory.
He emphasized that the main challenge now was how to transfer this asymmetric advantage to ground operations. He believed that Ukraine’s ability to strike at long distances, along with the use of drones, anti-personnel mines, and innovative tactics, would be crucial to its success.
