Hungarian PM urges EU to start "direct talks" with Russia on Ukraine ceasefire - media

This is stated in a letter from Orbán to the President of the European Council, António Costa, according to Bloomberg.

“I am convinced that the European Union — following the example of the United States — should enter into direct discussions with Russia on a ceasefire and sustainable peace in Ukraine,” Orbán wrote.

In a letter to President of the European Council António Costa, the Hungarian premier said the bloc shouldn’t attempt to adopt common EU conclusions at the March 6 summit on defense in Brussels, noting “strategic differences in our approach to Ukraine that cannot be bridged.”

According to Bloomberg, the European Council confirmed receiving the letter but did not provide any comments. The Hungarian government also did not respond to a request for comment.
