'Orban left isolated': Espreso correspondent on EU summit in Brussels
Correspondent Tetiana Vysotska reports that at the EU summit, Viktor Orban was effectively isolated regarding the decision to support Ukraine
She shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Regarding Viktor Orban, at the EU summit, it became clear that 26 countries have a unified position on Ukraine. They understand that Ukraine needs support, needs to be armed, and that Russia is the enemy of the European Union. However, there was Viktor Orban, and he was effectively isolated. The EU leaders and officials made it very simple. They didn’t change EU legislation or working principles; they simply ignored Viktor Orban. At the final press conference, European Council President António Costa aptly stated that Hungary has isolated itself. And when journalists asked him if this would cause a split in the EU, he replied that an isolated country cannot create a division," Vysotska reported.
The journalist reported that EU countries are set to extend individual sanctions against Russians by March 15.
"Basically, Viktor Orban has been isolated within the EU. They simply won’t take him into account. However, there is a problem, as there are positions within the EU that all 27 countries must vote on. Specifically, the extension of sanctions against Russia. By March 15, the EU must extend individual sanctions against Russians. And there is a certain problem here, as Viktor Orban may block this decision," she added.
