Future of Ukraine is in EU, we will keep our promise – Scholz
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union in the future
He made this statement during his speech at the opening of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin.
"Ukraine is a big country with a well-educated population. Despite the war's impact, economic growth is expected in Ukraine. Investments in the construction industry will revive the economy. Ukraine's agricultural sector is a global player. Its agricultural exports have returned to pre-war levels, which is a remarkable achievement and crucial for global food security," said Scholz.
The chancellor stressed that Ukraine will join the EU.
"Ukraine has great potential in renewable energy, hydrogen, digital transformation, IT, weapons, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. This conference focuses on these areas. When we talk about Ukraine's recovery, we are discussing the recovery of a future EU member. A few months after the Russian invasion began, we promised Ukraine its future in the EU. We will keep this promise," Scholz emphasized.
