France expects China to send "clear signals" to Russia on war in Ukraine

"We expect China to send very clear signals to Russia. China obviously plays a key role in ensuring Ukraine's independence and respect for international law, including its sovereignty," Séjourné emphasized.

The outlet notes that the Western community regularly calls on China to play a more active role in the war, using its influence on Russia.

"As I told you, Minister, this war concerns the entire international community," the French minister told his Chinese counterpart, who did not specifically mention the war in Ukraine in his opening remarks at the beginning of the press conference.

He also emphasized that the West believes that there will be no lasting peace unless it is agreed upon with the Ukrainians.

"There will be no security for Europeans if there is no peace in accordance with international law. Therefore, this is a very important issue for us, and that is why France intends to maintain a close dialogue with China," the minister said.
