EU’s top diplomat calls for faster action and greater unity in supporting Ukraine
In his last speech before completing his five-year term in office, EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell called on EU countries to be more united and quicker in their decision-making on Ukraine
Politico reported the information.
He emphasized that without proper coordination, the EU will not be able to effectively influence international events.
“If you are not united, you can’t show power… You cannot pretend to be a geopolitical power if you are taking weeks and months in order to act,” Borrel emphasized. “My last call to colleagues: Be more united, take decisions quicker. Events don’t wait for you.”
The diplomat urged not to delay decisions on Ukraine, stressing that Ukrainians need EU support more than ever, writes European Pravda.
"Every time we took decisions in order to support Ukraine, it took too long. Every time it was a hesitation: should we do, should we not do. The war continues raging, Ukrainian people need more support… We have to provide this support. Stop discussing and start acting quicker," he concluded.
Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will replace Borrell once her nomination is approved by the European Parliament.
- On November 10, the EU's top diplomat visited Ukraine for the last time in his position.
