European Parliament calls for suspension of Hungary’s voting rights - media
Volt party MEPs call for Hungary to be stripped of its EU voting rights after repeatedly blocking joint decisions. They will send their plan to EU leaders
Politico reported the information, citing a draft of the plan seen by its journalists.
According to the outlet, the plan by MEPs consists of nine points. In addition to calling for Hungary to be stripped of its voting rights, it proposes appointing EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas as the full Foreign Minister of the EU.
The authors of the text also want to create a joint European army and ensure the possibility of revisiting EU treaties to include new competencies in defense and prepare for expansion.
The day before, Politico reported that Hungary blocked a draft conclusion of the European Council summit, which included a €20 billion funding package for Ukraine and a clause on security guarantees. In the new version of the resolution, the reference to the funding was removed, but the point on security guarantees for Ukraine was strengthened.
- Recently, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that European leaders at the summit in London "decided to continue the war instead of opting for peace."
