In Brussels, efforts are underway to resolve Hungary’s blockage of Ukraine’s EU integration path. The EU is not considering separating Ukraine’s and Moldova’s accession processes, and both countries reaffirm their intention to pursue membership together

Political analyst and journalist Ivan Kapsamun shared the information on the program European Space with Yurii Fizer on Espreso TV.

“Recently, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visited Kyiv and clearly stated that there is currently no question of separating Ukraine’s and Moldova’s European path,” Kapsamun noted.

According to the analyst, current work focuses on bypassing or resolving Hungary’s veto. The European Council President also raises this issue in discussions with EU leaders, exploring ways to circumvent the Hungarian veto. Brussels’ efforts are therefore aimed at solving this problem, not splitting the tracks for Moldova and Ukraine.

“Moreover, there are no such signals from Chișinău. They clearly state that we began this path with Ukraine and must continue together. Moldova understands its responsibility to Ukraine — that it has survived as a state and can pursue the European integration course largely because Ukraine shields it from Russian aggression.

Turning its back on Ukraine now and moving toward Europe separately would be wrong. So, at least in the near term, there is no threat of splitting the tracks. I believe our countries will move together. The main task now is to deal with Orbán and his policies,” Kapsamun emphasized.

  • Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Budapest does not want to be in the EU alongside Ukraine, as it does not seek a shared fate with Ukraine, which includes living next to Russia.
  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine and Moldova should move toward EU membership together and in sync.
