This was stated by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a video briefing.
Starting April 1, Russia will preside over the UN Security Council for a month. The US believes that Russia will continue to use its seat in the UN to spread its narratives and attempts to justify its actions in Ukraine.
"We expect Russia to continue to use its seat on the Council to spread disinformation and to try to distract from the attempt to justify its actions in Ukraine and the war crimes members of its forces are committing and its outrageous violations of the UN Charter," Jean-Pierre said.
The White House notes that a country that grossly violates the UN Charter and invades its neighbor has no place in the UN Security Council. At the same time, they say that Russia, unfortunately, is a permanent member of the Security Council, and "no feasible international legal pathway exists to change that reality."
The spokesperson added that it would be unpleasant to see Russia holding the presidency of the UN Security Council, which is basically a ceremonial position that is passed to other members on a rotating basis.
Jean-Pierre called on Russia "to conduct itself professionally" and do its important work to ensure peace and security in the world.
Earlier, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council from April 1 is a bad joke.
