'Not all is lost': defense industry analyst on U.S. weapons supplies to Ukraine
Journalist and defense industry analyst Bohdan Miroshnychenko says that the suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine has not yet been decided
He stated this on the Espreso TV channel.
“The situation regarding the suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine is still unresolved. There are many headlines in various media claiming that the U.S. has already halted aid, that there will be no more arms deliveries, and that Europe is preparing to replace these supplies. In reality, the process is still ongoing, not everything is lost, and negotiations are taking place. Therefore, we must draw conclusions,” Miroshnychenko said.
According to the defense industry analyst, Ukraine must assess the reliability of certain partners and determine how to manage these risks.
“At the beginning of last year, we already experienced a six-month halt in arms supplies from the U.S. Now, additional political factors have emerged that could further delay or reduce this support. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 30% of military equipment supplies come from Europe, 30% from the U.S., and 40% from our own production,” Miroshnychenko recalled.
The journalist added that in 2022, the European Union supplied Ukraine with military equipment worth €62 billion, while the U.S. provided €64 billion.
“At the same time, in 2024, the U.S. supplied Ukraine with military equipment worth €20 billion. This €20 billion is the amount that may potentially need to be replaced. However, the issue is not just about money. Our partners could find €20 billion. The real problem is where to source the weapons—whether by producing, purchasing, or acquiring them. And that’s where difficulties arise,” Miroshnychenko emphasized.
- CIA Director John Ratcliffe officially announced a temporary halt in the provision of weapons and intelligence data to Ukraine. However, Bloomberg, citing a Ukrainian official, claims that Kyiv is still receiving U.S. intelligence information.
- The Executive Director of Ukraine’s Technological Forces, Kateryna Mykhalko, noted that if Ukraine has the funds, it can purchase weapons from the U.S.
