'Agreed to further consultations': Ukrainian officials meet with UK, French, German national security advisors in London
On April 23, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and President's Office Head Andriy Yermak met in London with national security and foreign policy advisors from the Coalition of Willing nations. Both sides agreed to continue holding regular consultations moving forward
Andriy Yermak, Head of the President's Office, reported on Telegram.
He noted that the UK was represented by Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell, France by President Macron’s Diplomatic Advisor Emmanuel Bonne, and Germany by Chancellor Scholz’s Foreign and Security Policy Advisor Jens Plötner.
The meeting took place at the official residence of the UK Foreign Office at the invitation of Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
“This is already the second such meeting—the previous one was held in Paris. Today, we continued our in-depth dialogue aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. We emphasized our commitment to the peace efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump,” Yermak said.
He added that Ukraine is grateful to its partners for their strong support and shared desire to end the war as soon as possible.
“Russia continues to refuse an unconditional ceasefire, dragging out the process and trying to manipulate negotiations. But international unity and the clear stance of our partners leave it with no chance. We agreed to hold further regular consultations to achieve our main goal: a just peace for Ukraine,” Yermak concluded.
What preceded it
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service reported that on Wednesday, April 23, the Ukrainian delegation arrived in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, to hold talks with representatives from Europe and the United States.
Andriy Sybiha and Rustem Umerov began meetings in London with their British counterparts, David Lammy and John Healey.
"Arrived in London together with Andriy Yermak and Rustem Umerov for a day of meetings with our partners as we work to achieve a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and all of Europe," Sybiha said.
During the meeting, the diplomats will discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine and secure long-term peace and security.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, announced the Ukrainian delegation's arrival in London.
He said he came to London together with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
"We will work for peace no matter what," Yermak stressed.
He noted that, as agreed in Paris, the Ukrainian delegation will meet today with American and European partners. According to Yermak, the talks will focus on ways to reach a full and unconditional ceasefire as a first step toward a broader settlement and a just, lasting peace.
"The road to peace isn’t easy, but Ukraine has always been and remains committed to peace efforts. Back in Jeddah in March, and later at other meetings, Ukraine clearly showed that it’s not the one standing in the way of peace," the head of the President’s Office added.
- As previously reported, the ministerial-level peace talks planned in London for April 23 were canceled. Instead, the meeting will take place between lower-level diplomats.
