We can’t waste time Ukraine buys us — Lithuanian president ahead EU security summit
Ahead of the EU security summit on March 6, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda hopes Europe will not waste time won by Ukraine's resistance and expects important decisions
He made this statement while speaking to the media before the meeting, as reported by European Pravda.
The Lithuanian president said that he considers the meeting extremely important and expects serious decisions from it.
"Ukraine is daily buying us precious time, paying a bloody price. So it would be very irresponsible to waste this time and have hours of talks without a clear result," he emphasized.
Nausėda noted that the leaders must discuss two important proposals, the first being the European Commission's plan for 800 billion euros to strengthen Europe’s defense and support Ukraine.
The President of Lithuania expressed strong hopes for a proposal to increase defense spending to 6% of GDP, given the country’s situation. He also supported a 20 billion euro financial package for Ukraine.
He affirmed that Lithuania has committed to allocating 0.25% of its GDP annually for Ukraine's support and noted that if all European partners did the same, it would provide 43 billion euros in support for Ukraine.
