"Volunteers for Russia" to stage "referendum" in Kherson region despite opposition from residents - Ukrainian Security Service

The Security Service intercepted documents confirming the intention to hold a fake Russian referendum on the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.

"Through a pseudo-vote, the Russian military hope to legitimize the inclusion of part of southern Ukraine into Russia. They have already developed the concept of preparing for a fake referendum and defined the main directions of work with reference to dates," the report says.

The date of the "voting" has not yet been set.

"The invaders plan to give the main role in the organization and holding of the pseudo-referendum to the pro-Kremlin organization "Volunteers for Russia". Under the supervision of the special services of the Russian Federation, its participants are to disperse in the region to simulate the support of the occupiers by local residents, as well as to create staged stories for rosTV," the Security Service added.

Pseudo-activists plan to organize more than 140 simultaneous pro-Russian pickets, 30 of them in Kherson. The occupation authorities have a task: they created 20 "election commissions" under the leadership of local collaborators: "The composition of the "election commissions" should have been approved by August 1 of this year."

To strengthen support for Russian forces, they offer to distribute food kits and starter packs of Russian operators.

The collaborators report to the Russian leadership that the people of Kherson are waiting for the liberation of the region and are actively resisting the pseudo-referendum.

"Currently, the Security Service has identified and established the whereabouts of all traitors and their "coordinators" from the Russian Federation, involved in the organization of the pseudo-referendum. Within the framework of the criminal proceedings for encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, comprehensive measures are being taken to bring the guilty to justice," the agency reported.
