Zelenskyy: Trump flying directly to Ukraine would signal ceasefire prospects
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to Ukraine would be beneficial, especially if the White House leader flew directly into Ukraine by plane
Zelenskyy said this while responding to journalists' questions online on Tuesday.
Zelenskyy was commenting on signals from the U.S. president that he is ready to address the Ukrainian parliament and be in Ukraine.
"I think it would be beneficial if President Trump could come. He's talking about advocating for a plan to end the war. I told him that we would be pleased to see him," Zelenskyy said.
He added that it would be "desirable" for the U.S. president to fly directly to Ukraine rather than to Poland.
"Because if President Trump, the President of the United States of America, flies to Ukraine – and it's desirable that he fly directly to Ukraine by plane, not to Poland and then travel by train – but flies to Ukraine, this would indicate that we definitely have a chance to count on a ceasefire," the head of state said.
He emphasized that "we are ready for President Trump's visit at any moment when he is ready for it, when all the conditions are in place, including security conditions."
As is known, since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine's airspace has been closed, and all foreign leaders who have visited the country over the past four years have arrived by ground transportation from Poland.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on December 28 that he has no plans to travel to Ukraine, but does not rule it out if it would help achieve a peace agreement.
