Zelenskyy to arrive in London on March 2 for talks with European leaders
Keir Starmer will meet with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni in London on Sunday ahead of a major defense summit focused on securing a lasting peace in Ukraine
The Guardian reported the information.
The summit will bring together leaders from over a dozen countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Starmer’s discussions with Trump in Washington this week aimed to secure U.S. support for Ukraine's peace agreement, though Trump remains hesitant to fully commit to military support. Instead, he proposed strengthening economic ties and mineral agreements as security “backstops” for Ukraine.
The UK has committed to increasing defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 and will play a key role in ensuring a strong and lasting peace deal. The summit will focus on military support and economic pressure on Russia, with the UK advocating for U.S. military assets to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities.
