Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against the fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko

This is stated in the decree published on the President's Office website.

Sanctions were also imposed on businessman Ihor Kolomoyskyi, former head of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk, former MP and entrepreneur Kostyantyn Zhevago, as well as billionaire and co-founder of PrivatBank Hennadiy Boholyubov.

The sanctions include the deprivation of state awards, asset blocking, trade restrictions, a ban on acquiring land, and the termination of agreements, particularly in the fields of security and defense.

Poroshenko’s statement

The day before, Petro Poroshenko confirmed the information that sanctions had been imposed against him. He published a statement calling the decision of the National Security and Defense Council "unconstitutional and politically motivated."

"This crime has many accomplices: the entire Zelenskyy team, the Cabinet of Ministers, which was pressured into the absurd submission, and the members of his National Security and Defense Council. But the mastermind, executor, and signatory is one – Zelenskyy himself. Just imagine, instead of preparing for crucial negotiations with Trump, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and several world leaders at the Munich conference, he spent the whole day on sanctions against my humble person," he said.

Poroshenko stated that "today Zelenskyy dealt a colossal blow to internal unity, which our team has steadfastly adhered to since February 2022 and which is our main weapon in the fight against the aggressor," adding that "the full responsibility for the negative consequences lies directly with him."

"He is looking for someone to blame for his tragic mistakes. That’s why he launched a campaign of accusations against Western partners. That’s why he ordered the imprisonment of military commanders. And here, of course, Poroshenko is to blame," Poroshenko added.

He also mentioned that tomorrow he would deliver another batch of aid to Ukrainian soldiers but was concerned that the sanctions might complicate the work of his foundation.

"I will not give up in the fight for a European democratic Ukraine. Our team will not give up, no one and nothing will make us change my position. This is revenge for the fact that we are the only ones who are not afraid to speak the truth and call things by their names," Poroshenko concluded.

Ukrainian Member of Parliament Mykola Knyazhytskyi responded to the information about the sanctions imposed on Petro Poroshenko. He published the relevant post on Facebook.

"After the conversation between Trump and Putin, and then Trump with Zelenskyy, it seems the latter decided to prepare for elections. Forbes writes that the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions on Poroshenko. If Zelenskyy signs the decree tomorrow, it will put a cross on international aid to Ukraine and our European integration. And perhaps even our independence," Knyazhytskyi wrote.

  • Earlier, Petro Poroshenko stated that there were attempts to disrupt his trip to the Munich Security Conference and to the front. He also reported that he had been served 15 summonses by the State Bureau of Investigation.
