Zelenskyy: U.S. should revoke visas for Ukrainian lawmakers opposing minerals deal
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that the minerals agreement with the U.S. will be ratified in the Verkhovna Rada, and those who do not support it should lose their American visas
Zelenskyy said this during a conversation with journalists on Saturday, as reported by Suspilne.
Zelenskyy believes that during the ratification of the mineral resources agreement, MPs will vote "not only for the future, but to preserve what we need today," referring to U.S. support.
“There are people who are set against this. So, for example, I think that the United States should simply cancel their visas,” Zelenskyy suggested.
Without naming specific individuals, the president spoke about MPs who "come to the U.S. every month" and talk about the bad situation in Ukraine, and “which parts of Ukraine are important and which are not so important.”
"After they walk through the halls of congressmen or senators, they say they are friends with the U.S., brothers forever, and then they return to Ukraine and refuse to vote on what is crucial for America," Zelenskyy believes.
"The result will be on the scoreboard: who voted and who didn’t. You can't play a double game," the president concluded.
- Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers asked the Verkhovna Rada to ratify the agreement on mineral resources with the United States "as soon as possible" — by May 8.
- On April 30, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement to establish the Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.
