Security comes from Ukrainian forces, not Putin’s promises — Zelenskyy in Brussels

At a press conference in Brussels, Zelenskyy stated that Putin cannot not provide Ukraine with any security guarantees, emphasizing that a true security guarantee is a strong army, which only Ukraine itself can ensure. 

He noted that financing the army is possible thanks to the support of European partners, and that weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces could be supplied both by domestic enterprises and European manufacturers. However, some capabilities were exclusively available from the U.S., which he considered part of the security guarantees. 

He also stressed that it remains uncertain whether international partners are prepared to participate in forming a reliable defense shield for Ukraine, particularly regarding the protection of Ukrainian airspace, and said that they are still seeking answers to these questions.

• On Monday, August 18, he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, where they will discuss Putin’s proposals to Trump for resolving the war in Ukraine.
• Zelenskyy will travel to the United States accompanied by a group of European politicians.
