Zelenskyy calls to revoke U.S. visas for lawmakers opposing minerals deal ratification
Should the agreement be ratified? I think so. It contains no threats and establishes the possibility of obtaining weapons from the United States
Could there be unpleasant or even harmful points in additional agreements and laws to implement the framework agreement? Yes, there could be. But it is the responsibility of the government and those who will prepare and vote on the next laws. It’s like the Association Agreement with the EU. It was a framework agreement, we ratified it, and later adopted many laws and resolutions to implement it. And we’re still doing that.
So why did Volodymyr Zelenskyy start threatening those who don’t vote? It’s unclear. Perhaps to once again demonstrate his unbreakable resolve. But why then appeal to the U.S. to revoke visas from those who don’t vote? The president should be aiming for a visa-free regime with the U.S. and other countries for everyone, regardless of beliefs. Imagine if the former President Petro Poroshenko, who advocated for visa-free travel, demanded it only for his supporters!
Yet, this idea of a trip abroad or to a “good” country remains a prize or punishment in the minds of post-Soviet people, dividing those who can travel freely from those who are banned.
War. Let’s all be responsible, logical, and not create conflicts or sow hatred where there is no need for it.
