In particular, Zaluzhnyi briefed his counterpart on the consequences of the latest massive Russian missile attack, emphasized the importance of air defense systems and once again thanked him for their provision.
"I shared my concern about Russia's use of maritime surface drones, which poses a threat to civilian navigation in the Black Sea," his post reads.
Zaluzhnyi added that during the conversation, they also discussed the course of hostilities. He noted that the most tense situation today is in the Donetsk area, where Russian troops launch up to 50 attacks daily.
"Fierce fighting continues near Vuhledar and Mariinka. We are firmly holding the defense line. In some areas of the frontline, we managed to regain previously lost positions and gain a foothold. Despite the enemy's constant pressure, we continue to keep Bakhmut under control and are taking measures to stabilize the front line around this city," added the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief.
In addition, he emphasized that the key to success on the battlefield is effective firepower, which requires an appropriate amount of weapons and ammunition.
"I thanked General Milley for understanding the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces to repel Russian armed aggression, for his significant personal contribution to bringing our Victory closer and for his unwavering support for Ukraine," the statement reads.
On January 20, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley noted that Ukraine can continue its defense – with the help of partners, it will be able to go on the tactical and operational offensive to liberate the occupied areas.
