U.S. VP Vance calls Oval Office clash between Zelenskyy and Trump "useful"
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance believes the Oval Office dispute between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, was "useful" because it revealed differences between the sides
Politico reported the information.
“Look, sometimes people disagree,” Vance said. “I mean, do I wish that we had had a blowup in the Oval Office in public? Not necessarily,” Vance said.
According to him, the clash between Trump and Zelenskyy was beneficial for the American people.
“Do I think that it actually elucidated some of the real issues of disagreement between the United States side and the Ukrainian side? Yes, and I think that was useful for the American people to see,” the vice president stated.
The politician also explained that his frustration over the Oval Office quarrel was less about Zelenskyy himself than about the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden, which provided Kyiv with billions of dollars in aid “without any real goal, any real diplomacy.”
“That was always what frustrated me far more than Zelenskyy was asking for help from Washington,” he said. “It was that the Biden administration had no plan for how to end the war,” Vance stressed.
He added that the Trump administration is “pretty aligned with President Zelenskyy” on working toward a peace deal.
Trump-Zelenskyy clash at the White House
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During a press conference, a dispute arose between Trump, Zelenskyy, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
It was later reported that the joint press conference of Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump was canceled following the disagreement.
After the clash at the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began expressing support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.
Zelenskyy later gave an interview to an American TV channel, during which he commented on the situation with Trump.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Zelenskyy should apologize for the conversation with Trump and JD Vance escalating into a dispute.
