US urges Israel to supply Ukrainian military with Hawk anti-aircraft missiles

The Biden administration has asked Israel to provide Ukraine with Hawk anti-aircraft missiles, which the country previously purchased from the US to defend against Egyptian and Syrian airstrikes

Axios reported the information citing 3 American and Israeli officials.

According to the outlet, the Pentagon reached out to the Israeli Ministry of Defense 2 weeks ago and asked to transfer the Hawk systems, which are in storage in the country, to Ukraine.

However, Dror Shalom, head of the political department at the Israeli Ministry of Defense, told his American counterparts that there has been no change in Israel's policy of not providing Ukraine with weapons systems. In addition, Israel claimed that the systems were outdated and could no longer be used.

A US official said that similar requests had been made to several other countries that had the system in active use or storage.
