US Treasury expands sanctions against Belarus: Lukashenko's aircraft, 3 entities and 9 individuals added to list

The US Treasury Department has expanded sanctions against Belarus: restrictions have been imposed on three legal entities, nine individuals, and Alexander Lukashenko's airliner

This is stated on the website of the US Treasury Department.

The US Treasury imposed sanctions against the Belarusian Automobile Plant (BelAZ), Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ), and the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Belarus.

In particular, BelAZ director Sergei Nikiforovich, MAZ head Valery Ivankovich, and seven members of the CEC of Belarus were subject to restrictions. The sanctions were also imposed on the aircraft used by self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

"Lukashenka has exclusive access to EW-001PA and other luxury aircraft and uses them for personal trips. Moreover, Lukashenka has used EW-001PA with his family and other members of his entourage for international travel," the agency explained.

"The authoritarian Lukashenka regime relies on state-owned enterprises and key officials to generate substantial revenue that enables oppressive acts against the Belarusian people," said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
