Secretary of State Rubio calls war in Ukraine “proxy war” between U.S., Russia. Kremlin agrees
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the war in Ukraine is a "proxy war" between two nuclear powers – Russia and the United States
The U.S. State Department reported the information.
“Frankly, it’s a proxy war between nuclear powers – the United States, helping Ukraine, and Russia – and it needs to come to an end. And no one has any idea or any plan to bring it to an end,” said Rubio.
In his opinion, Ukraine's plan supposedly involves continuing the war – "let's just keep giving them as much as they need, for as long as it takes."
“On the Russian side, obviously, they struggled early on in this conflict. They’re a bigger country. They’ve made some progress. But by no means are the Russians running away with it either. So it’s a stalemated conflict,” said the Secretary of State.
He also shared that the U.S. allegedly asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to "sabotage" peace talks between Ukraine and Russia: “When the Vice President made the point that it’s going to take diplomacy to get things like this solved, President Zelenskyy unfortunately made the decision to challenge the Vice President and start questioning whether diplomacy is even possible; in essence, sabotaging and undermining the President’s plan.”
Kremlin’s responce
The spokesperson for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, stated that the Kremlin agrees with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that the war in Ukraine is a “proxy war” between the United States and Russia, according to Radio Liberty.
“We can and want to agree with this, and we do agree with it. That is indeed the case. We have repeatedly said so. We have stated that this is essentially a conflict between Russia and the collective West, with the United States being the main country of the collective West,” Peskov said.
According to him, “this is completely in line” with the position that Vladimir Putin has “repeatedly expressed.”
- CIA Director John Ratcliffe has officially announced a temporary suspension of U.S. weapons deliveries and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. However, Bloomberg, citing a Ukrainian official, claims that Kyiv is still receiving U.S. intelligence.
