US accuses China of supporting Russia
US Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby has said that China continues to cooperate with Russia despite the war against Ukraine
The White House made a statement on its official website.
According to Kirby, large-scale purchases of Russian oil are another example of growing cooperation between China and Russia.
"I think this is just a piece of China’s willingness to continue to go along with — with Russia. And we’re seeing this as a — yet another example of a growing collaboration between China and Russia with respect to Ukraine.
And we have, as we’ve said at the outset, called on China to be a responsible power here and to join the rest of the world in condemning what Russia has done in Ukraine and in enforcing sanctions against Russia for it. So, it’s just another example.
And look, it’s also another example of how global security really is interconnected. It’s not just about security on the European continent. It’s connected, what’s happening in Ukraine — this is a perfect example of how it’s connected to — to national security — our national security interests and those of allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific as well," said John Kirby.
In May this year, China bought a record amount of Russian oil. They increased purchases to USD 7.47 billion, about USD 1 billion more than in April and twice as much as last year.
