UN is ready to mediate: Zelenskyy and Guterres discuss returning Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine's control
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed ending Russia's nuclear blackmail and restoring the safety of Ukrainian nuclear power plants
Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a video of the joint press conference with the UN Secretary-General on Telegram.
"Today we discussed how to stop the nuclear blackmail of the Russian Federation and restore the safety of all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which was violated by Russia. In particular, the safety of Zaporizhzhia NPP. ZNPP must return to full Ukrainian control – this is a matter of global, not just Ukrainian security," Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, Guterres emphasized that the UN is ready to mediate in the demilitarization of Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is under temporary occupation.
"The safety and security of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is also vital. I believe that possible mediation to fully demilitarize the area while ensuring the plant's return to normal operation would be essential. The United Nations stands ready to offer its good services," said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
