Ukrainian servicemen arrive in UK to be trained on AS90 howitzers

The UK Ministry of Defense tweeted this on Monday, February 6. It also published photos of a military transport aircraft that delivered the group of soldiers and the AS90.

“A warm welcome to Ukrainian personnel who have arrived in the UK this weekend to get to grips with the AS90. The AS90 is an armored self-propelled artillery weapon which the UK is providing to help Ukraine defend its homeland and retake territory.”

For reference. The UK self-propelled artillery weapon AS-90 (official designation - Gun Equipment 155 mm L131) was developed and manufactured by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering. It weighs 45 tons and is armed with a 155 mm 39 calibre barrel. The main operator is the British Army. Licensed production of the turrets has been set up in Poland for the AHS Krab self-propelled gun system.

• On January 15, 2023, the UK government announced that, in addition to 14 Challenger 2 tanks, Ukraine would receive 30 AS90 self-propelled artillery systems as part of a new military aid package.
