Ukrainian rescuers save unique engravings dedicated to man-made famine of 1930s
Due to the Russian missile attack on Sumy region on July 29, unique artworks that helped almost the entire world learn about the Genocide of Ukrainians were buried under the rubble
This was reported by the press center of the State Emergency Service.
On July 29, an enemy rocket hit the educational building of the Sumy Interregional Higher Vocational School, where the Center for Research of the Holodomor Resistance Movement in the Sumy region was situated.
About six years ago, they held a special exhibition of graphic drawings by Mykola Bondarenko titled "Ukraine - 1933: Cookbook. Human Memory" when the school first opened. The exhibition displayed 89 unique works.
The State Emergency Service reported that the Russian missile attack buried the one-of-a-kind works that helped spread awareness about the Genocide of Ukrainians under the debris.
Thanks to the efforts of the State Emergency Service units in the Sumy region, along with the assistance of the school staff and volunteers, most of Mykola Bondarenko's engravings were saved. They managed to recover 66 engravings from the rubble.
