Ukrainian forces repels Russian attacks in Kharkiv region — General Staff 

This is stated in the evening summary of the General Staff for August 9.

Throughout the day, Russia launched 2 missile strikes, conducted 28 air strikes, and carried out 35 MLRS attacks on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and areas where people live.

"Due to these Russian attacks, innocent civilians have been killed and injured, homes and other civilian buildings have been destroyed. There's still a high chance of missile and air strikes happening across Ukraine," states the General Staff.

Situation in different regions of Ukraine 

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian troops launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 30 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops shelled over 10 settlements across the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian defenders repelled attacks by Russian troops north of Synkivka and north-east of Ivanivka.  

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops shelled 5 settlements across the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Three areas were subjected to air strikes.  

In the Bakhmut direction, Russians shelled over 10 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian attacks in the area of Klishchiivka and Druzhba. One area was subjected to air strikes. 

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops shelled 4 settlements with artillery, and Avdiivka suffered from air strikes. Ukrainian forces repelled all the attacks. 

In the Marinka direction, Russian troops shelled 4 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. One area suffered from air strikes. Ukrainian forces hold the defense near Marinka. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops shelled 5 settlements and launched air strikes near 2 settlements. They tried to recapture lost positions near Staromayorske. 

In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops tried to advance near Novodanylivka, unsuccessfully. They shelled over 35 settlements across Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Three areas suffered from air strikes. 

During the day, there were 22 combat clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

Meanwhile, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue their offensive operation in Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They are holding their positions and countering enemy attacks.

AFU strikes on Russian positions 

In the past day, Ukrainian aircraft conducted 10 attacks on places where enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated. They also targeted an anti-aircraft missile complex and an enemy logistics hub.

Missile and artillery units struck 3 command posts, disabled 5 artillery units in their firing positions, hit a spot where enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment were accumulated, took down a radio-electronic warfare station, and targeted another crucial enemy site.

• The Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully eliminated 8 warehouses and a Russian command post in the Tavria direction.

• In the Svatove-Kreminna direction, the Russian army units sustained significant losses. The injured are being moved to border towns in Russia. The invading Russian forces lost 820 soldiers, 17 UAVs, and 8 tanks in one day.
