Ukrainian army targets 2 Russian command posts, while Russian forces try to regain lost positions near Urozhayne – General Staff

This is stated in the evening report of the General Staff for August 18

Situation at the front and Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory

During the day, the Russian forces launched one missile and 31 air strikes, fired 45 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

"The probability of missile and air strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high," the General Staff emphasizes.

There were 30 combat engagements over the last day.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

The situation in other sectors is as follows:

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian forces launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 20 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Two of the Kharkiv region’s districts suffered from air strikes.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russia conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area of Synkivka in Kharkiv region. They carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 5 more settlements across the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region. Russian forces carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled over 10 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Russian enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area north-east of Orikhovo-Vasylivka in the Donetsk region; carried out air strikes on Klishchiyivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. More than 15 settlements suffered from artillery shelling

In the Avdiivka direction, Russia conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area southeast and east of Novokalynove in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery fire

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the areas of Marinka and Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region. The Russian enemy launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk region. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian troops made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost ground near Urozhayne, Donetsk region; launched an air strike in the area of Staromayorske. More than 10 settlements came under artillery fire

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian enemy launched an air strike near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements suffered from enemy artillery shelling

In the Kherson direction, more than 10 settlements suffered from Russian artillery shelling. 

"The Ukrainian defense forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidate their positions and carry out counter-battery measures," the General Staff emphasizes.

Ukrainian army’s strikes against Russian forces 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 9 strikes on the areas where Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment were accumulated.

Moreover, missile and artillery units struck 2 areas where enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated, and targeted 4 artillery pieces in their firing positions, 2 control points and 2 Russian electronic warfare stations.

The South Command believes that the threat of missile attacks from the Black Sea on the territory of Ukraine remains high, in particular on the eve of and during Independence Day.
