Ukrainian army reports gains in area south of Robotyne – General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this in its nightly update on September 8.

Ukrainian counteroffensive and strikes against Russian troops

"Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol sector, destroying the enemy and liberating the occupied territories step by step, succeeding in the area south of Robotyne and consolidating the achieved positions," the statement says. 

Ukrainian aviation launched 9 strikes on the invading Russian troops' military positions and 1 strike on positions of anti-aircraft missile systems.

Missile and artillery units destroyed a munitions depot, 9 artillery pieces, 6 control points, and one enemy electronic warfare station.

Frontline situation

There were 24 combat engagements during the day. Russia launched 10 missile strikes, 60 airstrikes, and 37 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains challenging.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 15 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

In the Kupyansk direction, 15 settlements of the Kharkiv region came under artillery shelling. 

In the Lyman direction, over 15 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under Russian fire. 

In the Bakhmut direction, over 15 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces. 

In the Avdiivka direction, more than 10 settlements in the Donetsk region were attacked. 

In the Maryinka direction, over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region came under shelling. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, over 10 localities in the Donetsk region were shelled. 

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, over 25 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the occupying Russian army.
