Ukrainian Armed Forces repel 12 attacks in Kupyansk direction in a day — General Staff

The General Staff shared the information in the evening report for December 28.

"The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, strikes, and shells both military and civilian objects," the General Staff writes.

There were 42 combat clashes during the day. Russian troops launched 2 missile and 40 air strikes, and 33 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Private homes, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed and damaged.

Frontline update

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region. Over 20 settlements came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 Russian attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region. Russian troops also launched air strikes near 2 settlements in the Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces did not conduct any assault actions. They carried out air strikes near 9 settlements in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Over 10 settlements suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukraine's troops repelled 3 Russia's attacks near 2 settlements in the Donetsk region, where Russian troops unsuccessfully tried to break through Ukraine’s defense. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks east of Novobakhmutivka and Avdiivka and another 10 attacks near Pervomayske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where Russian troops, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back Russian troops near Marinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region. Russian troops made two unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders. Russian artillery and mortar fire targeted 5 settlements.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops did not conduct assault operations. They launched an air strike near the settlement of Staromayorske, Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled two attacks near Robotyne and south of Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia region. Rusisan troops, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to force Ukrainian units out of their positions. Over 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson direction, 7 settlements in the Kherson region came under artillery fire.

"The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. During the day, the enemy made 13 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our troops, was rebuffed and suffered significant losses. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, continuing to hold their positions and inflicting fire damage on the enemy," the General Staff noted.

During the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 17 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment and 2 anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile troops struck 2 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment, 4 artillery units and 2 ammunition depots.
