Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy 780 Russian troops, 28 artillery systems and 21 armored vehicles per day - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reports.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to January 4, 2024, amounted to:

• personnel – about 362,280 (+780)
• tanks ‒ 6,002 (+12)
• armored fighting vehicles ‒ 11,128 (+21)
• artillery systems – 8,574 (+28)
• MLRS – 947 (+2)
• air defense systems ‒ 630 (+1) 
• aircraft – 329
• helicopters – 324
• UAV operational-tactical level – 6,753 (+5)
• cruise missiles ‒ 1,785 (+2)
• warships/boats ‒ 23
• submarines – 1
• vehicles and tank trucks – 11,423 (+32) 
• special equipment ‒ 1,304 (+6)

Russian forces continue shelling Ukrainian settlements and military positions with various weapons

9 settlements in Kharkiv region; 2 settlements and Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region; 7 settlements in Donetsk region; 2 settlements in Zaporizhzhia region; 2 settlements in Kherson region were hit by air strikes.

About 110 towns and villages in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under Russian artillery fire.

"Over the last day, 58 combat engagements took place. In total, the Russian army launched 7 missiles, 58 air strikes, fired 57 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian and industrial infrastructure were destroyed and damaged," the General Staff reports.

Situation on the main frontlines

Near the state Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repulsed 3 Russian attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian troops did not conduct any assault operations.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled four Russian attacks near Bohdanivka and Andriivka in Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to deter the Russian troops, who keep trying to encircle Avdiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the invaders. Thus, the Defense Forces beat back 13 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and another 19 attacks in the areas of Sievierne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske in Donetsk region over the past day.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the Russian troops near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian troops repelled 14 attacks.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army did not conduct any offensive actions.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders fought off Russian forces near Robotyne.

In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to expand the bridgehead. Despite significant losses, the Russian troops continue trying to drive Ukrainian units out of their positions. Over the past day, the Russian forces made 9 unsuccessful assault attempts.

Attacks by Ukrainian defense forces on Russian positions

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation struck 12 areas of Russian troops' concentration.

Missile troops hit an area where Russian forces were concentrated, 3 air defense facilities, 3 artillery facilities, an electronic warfare station and 2 control points.
