Ukrainian air defense shoot down 10 Russian Orlan-10 drones in a day
Ukraine's Air Force Command press service shared the details on Facebook.
These drones are a popular target, because Russian helicopters and planes are trying to stay out of areas where they could be hit by Ukraine’s air defense systems.
"Russian aviation operates outside Ukraine's airspace, or in temporarily occupied territory, where Russia has significantly increased its own air defense systems. Therefore, Russian Orlan-10 drones, which mainly conduct aerial reconnaissance and correct artillery fire, become targets for Ukrainian forces," the report says.
The drones are considered a Russian development, but there is almost nothing Russian in an Orlan-10, as all its components are made by Russia in other countries, ranging from Germany and the United States to China and Japan.
"The role of this system in the war should not be underestimated. Orlan-10 can perform various tasks, for example, carry out target acquisition, be a transponder or mount interference or cellular jamming. It poses a serious threat to our troops," Ukraine's Air Force Command said.
One drone costs about $80,000-120,000.
