Oleksandr Kurbatov, spokesman for the 128th separate brigade of the Dnipro city's territorial defense in the Tavria direction, notes that Ukrainian sappers have to work hard not only because of the density of mines, but also because of Russian shelling

He shared the information on Espreso TV.

"It is difficult everywhere, both in Urozhayne and Staromayorske. Our sappers, who were clearing mines in the area of Staromayorske so that our units could operate more successfully, spent 36 hours under the most severe enemy fire. Can you imagine how many shells the Russians fired from artillery and mortars there, not to mention small arms? Our soldiers withstood and fulfilled their task," said the spokesman for the 128th separate brigade of the Dnipro city territorial defense.

Oleksandr Kurbatov also mentioned that concerning the density of the mines, the brigade's social media platforms have frequently shared details about instances where an extensive quantity of mines are discovered within a single square meter.

"We had a story when a huge pile of anti-tank mines was found in a 50 by 50 meter area, and we thought there would be no more. Then we found a large number of mines that were tightly laid in a 20 by 20 meter area at the junction of field roads along a forest belt. Our fighters removed about 200 mines from this intersection. That is, such a cluster of mines in many places is typical in that area. Russian troops have been mining for 8 months, often leaving a cocktail of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, which is very dangerous. Our sappers have to work very hard, as in the case of demining near Staromayorske, when the servicemen were under heavy fire for a day and a half. And in other places, our sappers go out at night to see what is in front of them and how to work at first light. And when enemy drones appear and mortar attacks begin, the sappers leave, but then return again. And this is a daily job," Kurbatov noted.

  • On August 12, the commander of the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, reported on the success of Ukrainian defenders in the Tavria sector.

  • On August 14, artillery units of the Tavria Defense Forces performed 1,630 fire missions during the day. At the same time, the Ukrainian military destroyed 269 Russian soldiers.
