On Telegram, Shmyhal noted that the substation where the accident occurred had been repeatedly damaged by Russian attacks.
“Emergency power outages have been introduced in Odesa and the surrounding areas. The situation is complicated, the scale of the accident is significant, and it is impossible to quickly restore power supply, including to critical infrastructure,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
In addition, Shmyhal emphasized that at an extraordinary government meeting, he had instructed the government to set up a round-the-clock government headquarters headed by the Minister of Energy, with the participation of the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, heads of the State Emergency Service, the head of Ukrenergo, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and other ministries and agencies.
“The main goal now is to power critical infrastructure and apartment buildings that depend on electricity for heating. A 25 MW gas turbine power plant provided by our partners from the United States is also to be transported to the city,” the Prime Minister added.
In particular, it is noted that he instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask Turkey for additional support in the form of power plants.
“All the Points of Invincibility should work around the clock in Odesa. The Minister of Energy and the head of Ukrenergo have gone to the city to coordinate the work,” Shmyhal said.
