Ukraine's intel reveals data on 11 Russian captains, 31 ships in shadow fleet
Ukraine's Defense Intelligence has published a list of 11 Russian captains and 31 ships involved in circumventing oil sanctions
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported the information.
The list includes captains of tankers affiliated with the sanctioned Russian company Sovcomflot, which is violating the restrictions on the maximum price of Russian oil. Among them are Ivan Nikiforov (captain of the tanker KOTLAS) and Konstantin Kovalenko (captain of the tanker CORUS).
Ship officers hold critical information about the true owners of shadow tankers, the technical condition of the vessels, as well as details regarding the cargo, its value, and transportation routes.
These officers make key decisions to disable or manipulate the ships' navigation systems, falsify data on the ships' locations, enter false information into route logs, dangerously transfer oil between ships at sea, and employ other tactics to bypass sanctions.
Such actions not only help finance the war of aggression against Ukraine but also pose a significant risk of a global environmental disaster.
Currently, the Ships section of the War & Sanctions portal contains data on 782 ships and 100 captains involved in these sanctions circumvention schemes.
