Ukraine's ambassador to Germany accuses Scholz's political party of seeking to hide Russia’s crimes
Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeyev has criticized Germany's Social Democratic Party over its calls for talks between Kyiv and Moscow
This is reported by DW.
The ambassador responded to the call from SPD representatives to the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, to mediate and achieve peace in Ukraine. The petition was signed by several individuals, including Peter Brandt, the son of former German chancellor Willy Brandt, former chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation Rainer Hoffmann, and former member of the Bundestag Michael Müller.
Makeyev criticized the call for peace, stating that it is not an April Fool's joke but pure cynicism towards the numerous victims of Russian aggression. He claimed that such appeals aim to conceal Russia's crimes and help the regime avoid accountability.
Makeyev stressed that the only acceptable appeal should be for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to leave Ukraine.
“Given the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the only call for peace that makes sense is for Mr. Putin to withdraw his troops from the entire Ukrainian territory immediately,” he emphasized.
