Ukraine won't strike Moscow during May 9 parade – international affairs expert
Yuriy Romanyuk, an international affairs expert and head of Ukraine in NATO public organization, believes that Ukraine will not attack Red Square in Moscow during the May 9 parade due to the presence of Chinese leader Xi Jinping
He shared this opinion live on Espreso TV.
"Ukraine shouldn’t agree to Putin’s so-called ‘truce’ for May 9. He just wants a comfortable pause to push through his version of victory at the cost of Ukraine’s national interests. Putin wants to play the great peacemaker, offering truces almost weekly, while blaming Ukraine for everything. What he really wants is to calmly march his executioners and murderers through Red Square," Romanyuk said.
The expert stressed that Ukraine won’t risk a confrontation with China. He said that would go against Kyiv’s interests.
"Obviously, Ukraine will not attack Red Square in Moscow on May 9. Since Chinese President Xi Jinping will be there, Ukraine will not escalate tensions with Beijing. It’s not in our interest for China to take it as a hostile move and fully side with Russia, using this as an excuse. We’re already unhappy that China is supplying weapons to Russia and that Chinese military personnel are present in some areas. Ukraine will not take this step, because international law would interpret it as aggression," he added.
- On April 28, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced a so-called "truce" for May 9, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Ukraine responded.
