Ukraine will not yet receive promised number of modified Leopard 2 tanks – German Ministry of Defense
According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, now Ukraine may receive less than a battalion of Leopard 2A6 tanks, although two were promised
This was stated by the German Minister of Defense, Spiegel reports.
According to Boris Pistorius, no new commitments regarding Leopard 2A6 tanks were made by other countries at the meeting of the so-called tank coalition.
"We will not reach the size of the battalion," the politician admitted.
Pistorius noted, as of today, only Germany and Portugal have committed to transfer Leopard 2A6 tanks: 14 and 3 tanks respectively. Poland is ready to send almost 30 outdated Leopard 2A4 tanks. Sweden is still studying whether and to what extent it will be able to supply them.

Spiegel journalists claimed that Ukraine would receive 80 tanks from Western partners: two Leopard battalions may arrive in Ukraine as early as the end of March.

The so-called spring arms package for Ukraine from Germany is already on its way. Ukrainian air defense is considered a priority in Germany. German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius expressed skepticism about forming a battalion of modern Leopard 2A6 tanks quickly. So far, only 14 tanks are being prepared from Germany and 3 from Portugal. According to him, further deliveries of Leopard tanks by other countries are not currently being discussed.
