The US imposes sanctions on Russians who spread fake news about Ukraine in Latin America

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the US Treasury Department.

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on two individuals and two legal entities for services they provided to the government of the Russian Federation.

They were engaged in a campaign to spread malicious influence abroad.

Treasury Under Secretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said that the United States is committed to exposing large-scale campaigns conducted by Russia at the direction of the government that are designed to mislead voters and undermine confidence in democratic institutions in the United States and around the world.

Political strategist and founder of the Agency for Social Design and Structura, Ilya Gambashidze, and Structura CEO Nikolai Tupikin were subject to US sanctions.

The United States believes that starting in the fall of 2022, Gambashidze and Tupikin launched a network of more than 60 websites that spread false information about the war in Ukraine and information discrediting US and NATO policies on the continent in Latin America.
